Rules & Expectations
Passes
Students visiting the LMC must have a pass, and need to sign in and sign out.
Students visiting the LMC during lunch recess must obtain a pass from their teacher in advance.
Students sent to the LMC on a pass must be able to do their work independently if there is a scheduled class at that time. If the Library Clerk is occupied with another class, students may be asked to return at a more convenient time.
Maximum of 3 students per pass at one time.
Kindergarten: 1 book for 1 week
1st grade: 1 book for 1 week
2nd grade: 2 books for 2 weeks
3rd - 8th grades: 3 books for 2 weeks
Staff: up to 50 items for 9 weeks
Materials may be renewed one time if they are not reserved by another patron.
Reference materials are for use in the LMC, and are not to be checked out.
Overdue books must be returned before LMC privileges are reinstated.
It is suggested to students that books be kept in backpacks when not being read. This will allow students to have their books when it’s their day to visit the LMC and to protect them from harm. Please be mindful of water bottles placed in backpacks. This can quickly ruin books! Always use the outside holders.

Fines
Students are responsible for the books they check out.
There are no fines charged for overdue books. If a book is damaged or lost, the student will be asked to pay for the book. Until the book is paid for or returned, a student’s check out privileges are suspended. The care of books helps maintain our library collection for all of our students.
Report cards will be held if a student has an overdue book or owes money for a lost or damaged book. The student's account can be cleared by returning overdue books and/or paying for any lost or damaged materials. Thank you for supporting us as we strive to be fiscally responsible with our public funds.
All library materials need to be returned to the LMC prior to withdrawing from Desert Mountain.

Expectations for Student Behavior in LMC
Students are expected to treat library items, i.e. books, furniture, etc. with respect.
Once students have made their book selection, they may line up at the circulation desk and enter their student ID# in the 10-key when it is their turn. Students are expected to stand in a single file line for check-out, patiently waiting their turn.
After check-out is complete, students may sit and read, or form a line at the exit door, depending on teacher preference.

Accessing the Collection and Student Account from Home
Students and parents can access this Desert Mountain collection from home by visiting our Online Card Catalog. In addition to checking the availability of books and creating lists, students and parents can review a student’s account, including due dates of books on loan, overdue materials, and holds. Parent and students may access My Library Info by selecting the tab at the top of the screen and entering the student’s Patron ID and last name.
