Dear Desert Mountain Families,

My name is Jyl Scholl Avey, and I am thrilled to be joining the school community this year! I am honored to have the opportunity to teach your children and become part of such a caring, close-knit rural community.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Reading Specialist. This fall marks my 23rd year in education, and the past six years have been spent doing what I love most—teaching kindergarten. There is nothing more rewarding than helping young learners build confidence, discover new interests, and experience the joy of learning to read.

My husband and I were childhood sweethearts and were both raised in a small rural community in Iowa. Because of that, I truly appreciate the values and strong sense of community that come with country living. I am excited to be part of a school where relationships matter and where families, staff, and students work together to help children succeed.

In my classroom, I strive to create a warm, positive, and engaging environment where every child feels safe, valued, and excited to learn. I believe children learn best through hands-on experiences, exploration, laughter, and encouragement. My goal is for each student to leave school every day feeling proud of what they accomplished and eager to return the next morning.

I also believe that a strong partnership between home and school is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. Open communication, teamwork, and mutual support help create the best possible learning experience, and I look forward to getting to know each of you throughout the school year.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our family, and our three dogs. I love to entertain, host the holidays at our home, travel and read!
